Madison County USBC Bowling
Association
Annual Meeting Minutes
March 14, 2009 @ 1:00 PM
Board Members In Attendance:
Harvey Poynter, Gary Kerns,
Judy Poynter, Lewis Jones Jr., Dean Acker, Carl Daniels, Mike Dillon, David
Norman, Beverly Shearer
M.C.B.A. President Harvey
Poynter called the annual meeting to order.
Harvey first informed the members about the association’s treasury
account status. He stated that will
need to tighten our spending next season.
Our association is down more
than 40 members from last season and with the economy we will probably loose
more members next season. The members
then discussed checking the lane dressing which is required once a year on a
set of lanes. The members were told
Galaxy Bowling Center taped the lanes and ran the tape through their lane
reader. They were having some problems
with the software and were going to check on an update. The members discussed ways to help pay for
an update like running a 50/50 pot during leagues. The members spoke on the inconsistency of the way the lanes are
dressed, Courtney Worley, Galaxy
general manager, said they were looking at bringing a person in from Kegel to
look at the machine. Harvey suggested
that to keep from losing teams in the fall leagues the leagues may have to
lower league fees. He asked Courtney if
the house will increase lineage, she
said no. Cleaning the lane area before
leagues was discussed. Harvey spoke on
how well the house has worked with us.
Harvey asked about the reading of the association by-laws, a motion was made and seconded to not read
the by-laws. Harvey then went over the
membership dues breakdown stating with our current membership we make less off
of the local dues than is paid for the President and Secretary’s salary. It was suggested that we check with the
non-sanctioned leagues at Galaxy like the bad bowlers league and the
non-sanctioned league bowling on Monday night to build up membership. Another option is to raise membership dues
for next season. Harvey asked if
someone wanted to make a motion to raise the membership dues. No motion was made on the raising the
dues. Harvey told the members his
office was up for election and asked for nominees, Mike Dillon made a motion
for nominations to cease and re-elect Harvey Poynter as president, the motion got a second and Harvey was
elected for another term. Harvey then
read the other board members names whose terms are expiring. Ben Conner, Carl Daniels, Billy McGuire,
David Norman, Renda Roberts were re-elected for another term. Amy Mayrhofer was elected to the board and
Spider Weaver was removed as a directed then elected to the board as an
honorary director. The members
discussed the upcoming KY State Bowling Association Jamboree. Beverly Shearer said Holiday Inn Express
would give us a rate of $65. Amy said
she might be able to get a better rate from Jameson Inn, she said she would check and let us
know. Harvey said we need to get as
many directors as we can to attend the Jamboree. Lewis Jones Jr said our main job will be to run the
tournament. We also discussed serving
donuts and having a fruit tray. Harvey
suggested running brackets during the tournament. Harvey told the members that our association is nominating Bill
Bradley to the KY State Bowling Association Hall Of Fame and listed his
accomplishments. Harvey asked Lewis to
check on when the nomination has to be turned to be voted on at this years
Jamboree. He asked the tournament
committee to work a tournament for April.
He asked if there was anything else the members wanted to discuss. Harvey thanked the board members for giving
their time. The board set the next
meeting for Monday April 6, 2009 @ 6:30 PM.
A motion to adjourn was made seconded and passed. Meeting adjourned at 1:50 PM.
