President Harvey Poynter called the meeting to order. Harvey suggested dropping the number of directors from 12 to 10
and the number of directors needed for a quorum down to 7 because of the lack
of attendance to the meeting. The
board decided to hold off on the suggestion until the directors not attending
the meeting could be contacted to see if they wanted to be a member of the
board of directors. The board discussed
mailing letters to all board members letting them know that the next meeting is
mandatory and directors without a good excuse not showing up be removed from
the board. Lewis said he would call the
directors that were absent and ask if they wished to be on the board and needed them to show up at the next
meeting. Harvey told Lewis to have the
absent directors call him and tell him that they want to be on the board. Beverly Shearer asked when the new dues go
into effect. The board decided the new
dues should go into effect for the summer league since the national dues go
into effect at that time. Harvey asked
Joe Silver about sponsoring kids through the YMCA. Joe said there would be 50 to 60 kids needing sponsoring. He told the board that there would be a
league on Tuesday and Thursday lasting 12 weeks costing $90 per child. Harvey suggested we donate $1000 to help the
kids. The board approved $900 for the
sponsorship of 5 kids on the Tuesday league and 5 kids on the Thursday league
letting the YMCA decide on the kids needing the sponsorship. Next the board discussed buying new
shirts. Kim Breeding told the board of
the different types and colors of the shirts, she said the shirts would run
around $30 each. The members decided on
navy blue for the color. The board
voted to buy the shirts at a approximate cost of $450. The board then discussed the patches and
other awards talked about at our last meeting and since Mike Moody, who was to
present ideas for the award patches, was absent and Judy Poynter was waiting on
an awards catalog the board decided to wait till the next meeting to continue
discussion on the awards. Harvey said
Lewis had some information about lane inspection equipment that the board
should purchase. Lewis described the
equipment as a level with a dial indicator and feeler gauge. The new equipment would speed up the inspections
by having two groups of inspectors working at the same time. The board voted to buy the equipment for
$650. Lewis suggested doing the lane
inspections early, Joe said any Saturday would be good and Lewis said we could
probable do Maroon Lanes during the week.
Lewis said he could bring the lane inspection equipment to the next
meeting so the members could learn how to use it on the lanes. Next Harvey asked about types of committees
for the association. He suggested
members with committee ideas bring them to the next meeting. He also talked about local bowlers attending
the state tournament and maybe sending board members to this years state
tournament. The board will talk more
about this at a later meeting. The
board then discussed the Welcome Back Tournament. Joe Silver said the lineage would cost $7.50 per bowler. The board decided the MCBA would pay the
lineage for all MCBA members for the tournament. The board suggested a scratch no-tap tournament with MCBA
members paying $5.00 to the prize fund and any bowler not in the MCBA could
bowl in the tournament by paying an entry fee of $12.50. Harvey appointed Lewis, Beverly and Wilma
Whittamore to the tournament committee and asked them to put the tournament
together and present it at the next meeting.
The board set the next meeting for June 6, 2006 at Galaxy Bowling
Center. The meeting will start at 6:00
PM.
