Board Of Directors Meeting

John Beranek, Carla Beranek,  Eli Harness, Lewis Jones Jr., Gary Kerns, Worth McGuire, Mike Moody, John Poynter, Dustin Woolery, Perry Wyrick

 

Association President John Beranek called the meeting to order.  The prize money for the 2005 City Tournament was given to the bowlers who placed in the tournament.  John took roll call, ten of thirteen directors were present.  John then asked the association members for nominations for MCBA directors.  Roger Shackleford, Joe Silver and Wilma Whittamore were nominated and voted onto the MCBA board of directors.  The members then discussed whether to merge with the MCWBA when our association joins the United States Bowling Congress.  It was asked if the women’s association was interested in merging.  Carla Beranek talked to some members of the MCWBA and reported that the women’s association didn’t want to merge.  After a short discussion our association decided the that we didn’t have an interest in a merger.  The association members then discussed what should be done with the money in our association’s account.  Lewis Jones Jr. reported that we had around $6,000 in the account.  The members discussed putting some of the money toward youth bowlers to build up the sport.  The suggestions included scholarships, a youth city tournament, youth leagues, contacting other bowling centers about starting a youth program and sponsoring underprivileged kids who were interested in the Kids Bowing Camp at Galaxy this summer.  John Beranek appointed Eli Harness, Mike Moody, Perry Wyrick and Dustin Woolery to the newly formed Youth Committee.  He asked them work on putting together ideas that would help the local youth bowlers.  The members discussed the idea of holding a Youth City Tournament open to all youth bowlers in Madison County.  Giving pizza and soda to the participates was suggested.  Galaxy said they would charge $6.00 for 3 games of bowling.  It was then suggested that we charge the youth bowlers $5.00 to bowl in the youth city tournament and our assoc. pay the other $1.00.  The age of the bowlers who were eligible to participate and paying for underprivileged kids who couldn’t afford to bowl in the tournament was also discussed.  John Beranek told the members that we would look at holding the tournament next fall which would give us more time to work on the youth city tournament.  The board voted to pay the state tournament entry fees of any bowler on the YABA leagues who were going to bowl in the YABA State Tournament.  Joe Silver talked to the assoc. members about the Kids Camp that Galaxy was going to hold this summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Paying for underprivileged kids Kids Camp fees was discussed,  the board voted to pay for the fees of kids who couldn’t afford to participate in the Kids Camp.  Carla Beranek and Wilma Whittamore were asked to work with the local schools on kids who might be interested and need the help in paying the fees.  John Poynter talked about a doubles tournament that would run for over several weeks and could be bowled at any time of the week from 1-5 PM.  He suggested our association put up $250 and said Galaxy would put up $250 and the winner of the tournament would be guaranteed $500.  The board voted to put up the $250 for the doubles tournament.  The members also discussed the lack of participation in the city tournament.  John Beranek appointed members to the tournament committee.  Roger Shackleford, Gary Kerns, John Poynter, John Beranek and Joe Silver were the new tournament committee members.  The changing of the oil pattern at Galaxy was also talked about.  Bowlers are going to have the chance to try out several oil patterns this summer before Galaxy decides on the new shot.  We also discussed taping the lanes which is supposed to be done when a special awards score is shot.  Dustin and Joe said they would check the lanes for us.  The board set the next meeting for April 5, 2005 at Galaxy Bowling Center.  The meeting will start at 7:00 PM.
