Madison
County Bowling Association
Board Of Directors Meeting
Roll Call
Association
President John Beranek called the meeting to order. The prize money for the 2005 City Tournament was given to the
bowlers who placed in the tournament.
John took roll call, ten of thirteen directors were present. John then asked the association members for
nominations for MCBA directors. Roger
Shackleford, Joe Silver and Wilma Whittamore were nominated and voted onto the
MCBA board of directors. The members
then discussed whether to merge with the MCWBA when our association joins the
United States Bowling Congress. It was
asked if the women’s association was interested in merging. Carla Beranek talked to some members of the
MCWBA and reported that the women’s association didn’t want to merge. After a short discussion our association
decided the that we didn’t have an interest in a merger. The association members then discussed what
should be done with the money in our association’s account. Lewis Jones Jr. reported that we had around
$6,000 in the account. The members
discussed putting some of the money toward youth bowlers to build up the
sport. The suggestions included
scholarships, a youth city tournament, youth leagues, contacting other bowling
centers about starting a youth program and sponsoring underprivileged kids who
were interested in the Kids Bowing Camp at Galaxy this summer. John Beranek appointed Eli Harness, Mike
Moody, Perry Wyrick and Dustin Woolery to the newly formed Youth
Committee. He asked them work on
putting together ideas that would help the local youth bowlers. The members discussed the idea of holding a
Youth City Tournament open to all youth bowlers in Madison County. Giving pizza and soda to the participates
was suggested. Galaxy said they would
charge $6.00 for 3 games of bowling. It
was then suggested that we charge the youth bowlers $5.00 to bowl in the youth
city tournament and our assoc. pay the other $1.00. The age of the bowlers who were eligible to participate and
paying for underprivileged kids who couldn’t afford to bowl in the tournament
was also discussed. John Beranek told
the members that we would look at holding the tournament next fall which would
give us more time to work on the youth city tournament. The board voted to pay the state tournament
entry fees of any bowler on the YABA leagues who were going to bowl in the YABA
State Tournament. Joe Silver talked to
the assoc. members about the Kids Camp that Galaxy was going to hold this
summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Paying
for underprivileged kids Kids Camp fees was discussed, the board voted to pay for the fees of kids
who couldn’t afford to participate in the Kids Camp. Carla Beranek and Wilma Whittamore were asked to work with the
local schools on kids who might be interested and need the help in paying the
fees. John Poynter talked about a doubles
tournament that would run for over several weeks and could be bowled at any
time of the week from 1-5 PM. He
suggested our association put up $250 and said Galaxy would put up $250 and the
winner of the tournament would be guaranteed $500. The board voted to put up the $250 for the doubles
tournament. The members also discussed
the lack of participation in the city tournament. John Beranek appointed members to the tournament committee. Roger Shackleford, Gary Kerns, John Poynter,
John Beranek and Joe Silver were the new tournament committee members. The changing of the oil pattern at Galaxy
was also talked about. Bowlers are
going to have the chance to try out several oil patterns this summer before
Galaxy decides on the new shot. We also
discussed taping the lanes which is supposed to be done when a special awards
score is shot. Dustin and Joe said they
would check the lanes for us. The board
set the next meeting for April 5, 2005 at Galaxy Bowling Center. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM.
